IKE REED FAMILY REUNION HISTORY

Our Story
On the first Sunday in August 1973 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Lisbon, Louisiana, Mrs. Zadie Reed Thompson and some of her cousins discussed organizing a reunion for the descendants of Isaac (Ike) Reed. Cousin Zadie thought about it, and in October of the same year, she and Deacon M.D. Thompson Cousin Zadie’s husband set the wheels in motion!
The first IKE REED FAMILY REUNION
Many family members were home for Christmas and attended the gathering on December 26, 1973.

ANNUAL IKE REED FAMILY REUNION
The IKE REED FAMILY REUNION became an annual affair and was held on this date (December 26th…) until November 13, 1977, when it was decided to change the reunion date to the Saturday before the first Sunday in August.
Considering 1989 to be the family reunion memorial year, the last family reunion held at the same location Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Lisbon, Louisiana, was actually the 19th family reunion.

In the year 1993, the IKE REED FAMILY REUNION began a bi-yearly family reunion schedule. This was the beginning of the reunions being held every other year at different locations.
For nostalgia sake, this photo of Cager and Calline Reed with all of their children in Lisbon, LA that I imagine was taken the Saturday before 1st Sunday in August in the early 1970s..before the Ike Reed Reunion officially became an annual reunion.
